Starting in April 2025, the PIN bypass feature for IC card transactions will be discontinued as part of the security guidelines set by the Japan Credit Association.
What is PIN Bypass?
PIN bypass is when you skip entering your PIN and instead authenticate the transaction with a signature. For example:
- Signing after making a payment at a restaurant
- Signing after paying at a department store or other retail locations
What Does This Mean for You?
From April 2025, if you forget your PIN (unless it’s a small transaction that doesn’t require authentication), you won’t be able to use your card. Please check your PIN on your MyAccount in advance and be ready to enter it when making transactions.
