In order to apply for a MobalPay card, you must have one of these forms of ID:
- Japanese Residence Card (Zairyū Card)
- Japanese Driving License
The easiest one of these for a new expat in Japan to get hold of is a Residence Card, aka Zairyū Card – in fact, you can get one when you arrive at the airport!
With a few exceptions, the Residence Card is designed for any expat who’ll be living in Japan more than three months. Getting one is simple – as part of the arrival process in Japan, your photo and fingerprints are taken, and then the card is issued. It really is as simple as that! The card carries important information such as your name, date of birth, and visa status.
What next?
Within 14 days of moving into a new address, you must head over to your nearest Municipal Office and present your Residence Card, along with your passport. Your new address will then be printed onto your Residence Card.
