SMS Character Limit:
Please be advised that standard SMS text messages are limited to 160 characters or up to 70 characters if the message contains one or more Unicode characters (such as an emoji for example).
If any of your SMS text messages exceed this character limit, the message will be split into multiple messages (with the maximum amount of characters in each message) and so you will be charged separately for each message that is sent.
Outbound Texts
Please be advised that the SMS Text Messaging feature is not a guaranteed service and messages can be delayed, corrupted, or fail to send on occasion. If your message is urgent or critical, we would always recommend that you place a phone call rather than send a text message.
When using a Mobal SIM card to send an SMS text message, you will need to use the “+” prefix followed by the country code and then the number including the area code.
If the area code begins with a “0” you would generally remove this when dialing. For example, a UK cellphone number has the local format of 07?? ??? ???? – You would dial this as: + 44 7?? ??? ????
To text to a US cellphone number you would enter: + 1 ??? ??? ????
Note: When dialing enter numbers only, ignore any spaces or hyphens as these are not required (some phones will automatically add these for ease of viewing – this is completely normal!)
Is the Plus “+” symbol necessary and how do I enter it?
Yes! – Text messages will not reach the intended recipient without the + as this represents the international dial-out code for the country you are texting from. Using the plus symbol replaces the need of entering different codes (such as “011” or “00”) as you travel between countries!
All cellphones have the ability to enter a plus. You should see the symbol on either the zero “0” or asterisk “*” key. You will need to long press or double tap the respective key to get the plus symbol to appear.
What “Country Code” do I use?
Regardless of your physical location (or the location of the phone you are trying to text), the country code used will be the home country of the number you are trying to text. Therefore, to text to a US cellphone you would always use the country code “1” – To view a list of 200 country codes, click here!
