How to install your eSIM on an Android device

Installing Your eSIM

Below is a step by step guide on how to request and install your eSIM on an Android device.

Step 1: Activation Code Creation
Please complete this step 24 hours before you leave for Japan ( If you are already in Japan, please continue. ).

  1. Go to the ‘ Your eSIM Details’ email we sent to you, and click on the link to your eSIM Admin Portal.
  2. Click “Issue eSIM (activation code).”
    Your eSIM should be added to the portal within 15 minutes.
    Note: Server maintenance takes place every Tuesday at 22:00 and completed on Wednesday at 09:00. If you request your eSIM during this time, it will not be added into your portal until shortly after 09:00am Wednesday.

Step 2: eSIM Setup – To be completed once in Japan.

  1.  Connect to WiFi
  2. Disable Airplane mode
  3. Disable any other SIMs/eSIMs on your device ( If possible )Following this please install the eSIM by using the QR Code or entering the details manually;

Option 1: Installing the eSIM using the QR Code;

  1. In Settings, Go to Network & Internet.
  2. Click on the + icon next to SIMs.
  3. Click Download a SIM Instead?
  4. Click Next and scan the QR code found in your eSIM Portal.
  5. Click Download to install the eSIM.
  6. Once the eSIM download is finished, Go to Settings.
  7. Turn ON the toggle button to ensure the eSIM is Active
  8. Enable Mobile Data

 

Option 2: Installing the eSIM manually;
Note: These instructions are provided as a general guide and may differ to your device. If that’s the case please refer to your phone manufacturers user guide for exact instructions.

  1. Go to Settings > Mobile Network > eSIM > Set this to “On” > Add eSIM > Next > Help (located at the bottom of the screen) > Enter details manually.
  2. Type or paste your activation code found in the eSIM Admin Portal (beginning with 1$) into the designated field.
  3. Tap “Download.”
  4. If “Valid IIJ” appears, the installation is complete. Tap “Complete.”
  5. Activate “Use SIM” and then tap “Yes” to complete the eSIM setup.
  6. Go to Settings > Mobile Networks and make sure our eSIM is set as the default for Data use
  7. Enable Mobile Data

Step 3: APN Setup ( Important )

  • Select “Access Point Name” under the downloaded eSIM.
  • Tap the “+” symbol in the top right corner of the screen to add the APN name.
  • Enter the following information for the Access Point Name:
    • Name: ppsim
    • APN: ppsim.jp
    • Username: pp@sim
    • Password: jpn
    • Authentication Type: PAP or CHAP
