For many new expats in Japan, JP Post Bank is a great way of opening a Japanese Bank Account, thanks to their policy of allowing residents who\u2019ve been in the country less than 6 months to open an account. As a JP Post Bank account holder, you can make use of their mobile \u2018BankBook\u2019 app to manage your account online, and this can also be used to top up your MobalPay account, right from your phone!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to use the BankBook App, you\u2019ll need to have a Japanese phone number. If you don\u2019t yet have one, you can use your MobalPay account to <\/span><\/b>buy a Mobal SIM here<\/span><\/b><\/a>! You\u2019ll get a real phone number from a real Japanese network carrier, and access to a range of great flexible data plans too.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to top up your MobalPay account using the app \u2013 we\u2019ll guide you through the process from setup, to authentication, to making a transfer.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Part 1: Get Started<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

The JP Post Bank \u2018BankBook\u2019 App<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

  1. Go to <\/span>the app store<\/span><\/b><\/a> and download the app for your device.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. You\u2019ll be asked to agree to the terms and conditions and privacy policy before using the app. Scroll downs and select \u201c<\/span>\u540c\u610f\u3059\u308b\u201d<\/span><\/b> to agree on both pages.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Enter your <\/span>cash card number and account number <\/span><\/b>(\u8a18\u53f7\u756a\u53f7) in the boxes provided. These are the 5 and 8-digit numbers printed next to each other on the front of your JP Post Bank cash card. In the box <\/span>\u59d3\u540d,<\/span><\/b> enter your name in Katakana as per your cash card. Finally, enter your Date of Birth using the format displayed.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. On the next screen, you\u2019ll be asked how you\u2019d like to verify your identity. Choose <\/span>\u751f\u4f53\u8a8d\u8a3c <\/span><\/b>to set up facial recognition.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. You\u2019ll now be prompted to download the JP Post Bank Authenticator app. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Part 2: Set Up Facial Recognition<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

    1. Search for\u00a0 \u201c<\/span>\u3086\u3046\u3061\u3087\u8a8d\u8a3c\u30a2\u30d7\u30ea<\/span><\/b>\u201d in App Store\/Google Play. Open the app once it\u2019s downloaded to your phone.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Skip the introductory pages using the <\/span>right arrow.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. When prompted, enter your <\/span>cash card\u2019s PIN <\/span><\/b>(\u6697\u8a3c\u756a\u53f7). Multiple incorrect entries may result in being locked out of the app. [image] Click \u2018<\/span>\u6b21\u3078\u2019<\/span><\/b> (Next) to proceed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. On the next screen, click \u2018<\/span>\u6b21\u3078\u2019<\/span><\/b> (Next) to proceed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    5. Next, you\u2019ll be asked if you agree to allow your personal data to be shared with a third-party processing company. Click \u2018<\/span>\u540c\u610f\u3059\u308b\u2019<\/span><\/b> to agree, then \u2018<\/span>\u6b21\u3078\u2019<\/span><\/b> (Next) to proceed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    6. You\u2019ll now be asked to choose your preferred ID (Japanese Driving License, MyNumber Card or Residence Card). If you\u2019re new to Japan, you\u2019ll likely only have a Residence card. To choose Residence Card, click \u2018<\/span>\u5728\u7559\u30ab\u30fc\u30c9\u2019.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    7. The app will now switch to English. Get your Residence card ready and click \u2018<\/span>Next\u2019.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    8. When prompted, enter your <\/span>residence card number<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    9. Next, hit <\/span>\u2018OK\u2019<\/span><\/b> to enable the camera, and follow the instructions on the screen so that the app can perform facial verification.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    10. On the next screen, select the green button \u2018<\/span>\u78ba\u8a8d\u30b3\u30fc\u30c9\u3092\u767a\u884c\u3059\u308b\u2019 <\/span><\/b>to receive a verification code. You\u2019ll need either an SMS-enabled Japanese phone number or a landline number from which you can receive a voice message.<\/span><\/span>\n

    11. Enter your verification code or click <\/span>\u2018\u3082\u3046\u4e00\u5ea6\u78ba\u8a8d\u30b3\u30fc\u30c9\u3092\u78ba\u8a8d\u3059\u308b\u2019<\/span><\/b> to request a new code to be issued. When complete, click next \u2018<\/span>\u6b21\u3078\u2019\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    12. If the Face ID function on your device is not enabled, a pop-up message will appear. Press the permission button <\/span>\u2018\u8a31\u53ef\u2019 <\/span><\/b>to enable.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    13. On the next screen, press \u2018<\/span>\u884c\u3046\u2019 <\/span><\/b>to enable authentication for transactions made via the app.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    14. The next screen gives you the option to set a Pass Code. This is optional and can be done at a later date if you wish. To register a Pass Code press \u2018<\/span>\u767b\u9332\u3059\u308b\u2019<\/span><\/b> and then <\/span>\u2018\u6b21\u3078\u2019 <\/span><\/b>(next)<\/span>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    15. Your registration is now complete. Click <\/span>\u2018\u30a2\u30d7\u30ea\u30c8\u30c3\u30d7\u753b\u9762\u3078\u2019<\/span><\/b> to return to the app home screen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Part 3: Send Money using the JP Post Bank App\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

      1. Return to the <\/span>\u3086\u3046\u3061\u3087\u901a\u5e33<\/span><\/b> App on your device.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Click the <\/span>\u2018\u9001\u91d1\u2019<\/span><\/b> button to send money. Your current balance is displayed above it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Select <\/span>\u2018\u4ed6\u91d1\u878d\u6a5f\u95a2\u3042\u3066\u306b\u9001\u91d1\u2019<\/span><\/b> to send money to an unregistered, non-JP Post Bank account (including your MobalPay account).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      4. Next, you\u2019ll be asked to choose the bank you wish to send money to. Choose <\/span>\u2018\u4e09\u4e95\u4f4f\u53cb\u9280\u884c\u2019 <\/span><\/b>(SMBC bank).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      5. You\u2019ll now be asked to select the first Japanese character of the bank branch you wish to send money to. Select <\/span>\u2018\u30a2\u2019<\/span><\/b> in Katakana and click<\/span> \u2018\u691c\u7d22\u2019.<\/span><\/b> (To type in Japanese characters, you may need to set up a Japanese keyboard on your device which can be done in your device\u2019s settings.)<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      6. Next, select <\/span>\u2018\u30a2\u30aa\u30a4\u652f\u5e97\u2019 (<\/span><\/b>Aoi Branch) at the top of the list, then press <\/span>\u2018\u6b21\u3078\u2019<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      7. On the next screen, click the down arrow\u25bc in the <\/span>\u2018\u9810\u91d1\u7a2e\u985e\u2019 <\/span><\/b>field.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      8. Select <\/span>\u2018\u666e\u901a\u2019 <\/span><\/b>(general deposit account).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      9. Enter your MobalPay account number in the <\/span>\u2018\u53e3\u5ea7\u756a\u53f7\u2019 <\/span><\/b>field. This is unique to you and can be found in your MobalPay MyAccount.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      10. Enter the amount of money you wish to send in the \u2018\u9001\u91d1\u984d\u2019 field and click the <\/span>\u2018\u78ba\u8a8d\u2019 <\/span><\/b>to confirm.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      11. Your name and phone number should already appear on the next screen. Click the <\/span>\u2018\u6b21\u3078\u2019<\/span><\/b> (next) button.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      12. Check the transaction details, and click \u2018<\/span>\u30a2\u30d7\u30ea\u3092\u8d77\u52d5\u2019.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
      13. Finally, click <\/span>\u2018\u627f\u8a8d\u2019<\/span><\/b> to authorize the transaction.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        That\u2019s it! You\u2019ve successfully authorized a MobalPay topup using the JP Post Bank app.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Please note, there is a delay from when you make your top-up payment to when we receive your funds from the bank. Because of this, it takes up to two business days before your payment gets into your MobalPay account.
