An eSIM Access Code is an 8-character code that’s either mailed to you, or handed to you at a Mobal Pick-Up point in Japan. Along with your device’s EID, it allows you to activate your Mobal Voice+Data eSIM.
Why do I need it?
We have to check your ID.
Japan has strict regulations about voice eSIM services, so we need to make sure you’re the real owner of the eSIM. That means we can’t just send you the eSIM by email – instead we have to mail you an eSIM Access Code to you. (Or you can pick it up yourself at one of our pick-up points in Japan – just show your ID when you get there.) It might sound weird, but these are the rules we have to follow.
So why don’t other providers do this?
You might wonder why some other providers don’t ask for your ID. Well, they won’t be offering you a service with a real Japanese phone number. These will probably give you a slower and less reliable service. We want to give you the best Japan eSIM service possible, even if it takes a bit more time at the beginning!
What if I don’t want to wait?
If you’re in a hurry and you don’t need a voice service, you can get one of our Data Only eSIMs. They can be delivered to you by email in minutes, no ID required!
