Local Calls:

When placing a call to a local phone number within Japan, simply dial the standard number directly including the area code and the leading zero.

To place an international call, use the international dialing procedure shown below.

International Calls

When placing an international call, you must use the prefix of “0063”. It takes up to 48 hours from activation for this service to become available, so we’d advise using services like WhatsApp during that time.

After entering 0063, please enter the country code (of the country you are calling to) and then enter the standard area code and phone number.

If the area code begins with a “0” however, you would generally remove this when dialing.

If you attempt to place a call using the 0063 method but the call fails to complete (usually the call will cut off and you may hear a series of beeps), this would indicate that the 0063 feature is not yet active.

SMS Text Messaging

When sending outbound international text messages however, please be advised that you will be required to use an alternative dialing procedure.

Therefore, you may wish to consider saving two versions of your contacts phone numbers (one for SMS text messaging and one for placing phone calls).
