To access the ‘Japan Unlimited’ cellular data service on your device, you will need to:

  • Enable the ‘Cellular / Mobile Data’ feature
  • Ensure that ‘LTE’ is enabled (if your device is 4G capable)

To access cellular data on your iPhone, please open the “Settings” menu and then tap on the option for “Mobile Data”.

If the “Mobile Data” option is not visible (due to you using an older handset / an older version of the Apple iOS), you may need to tap on the option for “General” or “Cellular” in order to view the “Mobile Data” option.

You can then tap on the “Mobile Data” button to enable this feature (or slide the button to the right).

In most cases, no additional setup would be required as the Access Point Name (APN) is usually configured automatically when using an iPhone handset.

Usually, no other configuration is needed as the Access Point Name (APN) is automatically configured!

However, if your iPhone is 4G capable (and operates on the required 4G Band 1 – 2100MHz frequency) then you would be required to enable the “LTE” option on your device to benefit from 4G LTE high speed data.

To enable 4G cellular data access on your iPhone, please open the “Settings” menu and then tap on the option for “Mobile Data”.

If the “Mobile Data” option is not visible (due to you using an older handset / an older version of the Apple iOS), you may need to tap on the option for “General” or “Cellular” in order to view the “Mobile Data” option.

On the next screen, please tap on the option for “Mobile Data Options”.

You can then “Enable LTE” by tapping on this option or by sliding the button to the right.

If you are asked to specify which services should use the LTE connection (voice/text/data or data-only), please select the “Data Only” option (as 4G can only be used for cellular data access with this service).

If you are unable to access cellular data after completing the steps above, it may be that the settings from your previous service provider are conflicting with the automated setup.

To resolve this, please try resetting your network settings.

On most iPhone handsets, you can find this option by going to:

Settings” > “General” > “Reset” > “Reset Network Settings

(or)

Settings” > “Cellular” > “Cellular Data Network” > “Reset Network Settings

Now that you have reset your network settings, please reboot your device (and check that the “Mobile Data” option is still enabled) and then wait a few minutes before retesting the data connection.

If it is possible on your device, we would also recommend that you remove any other Access Point Name (APN) profiles that are installed on your handset (apart from the Mobal / Softbank APN profile).

This can prevent another APN profile from interfering with the Softbank APN profile and so this may resolve your issue.

On most iPhone handsets (if the option is available), you can view the current APN profiles that are installed by going to:

Settings” > “Cellular” > “Cellular Data Options” > “Cellular Network

(or)

Settings” > “Mobile Data” > “Mobile Data Options” > “Mobile Data Network
