Required frequencies for network coverage:
We can confirm that the ‘Japan Unlimited’ SIM cards we offer utilize the Softbank network.
The primary 3G / 4G frequencies used within Japan by this network are as follows:
3G Band 1 – 2100MHz
4G Band 1 – 2100MHz
We would therefore recommend using a device that supports these 3G / 4G frequencies at minimum.
The network also supports the following additional frequencies:
3G Band 8 – 900MHz
3G Band 11 – 1500MHz
4G Band 8 – 900MHz
4G Band 9 – 1800MHz
4G Band 41 – 2500MHz
However, please be advised that the additional frequencies mentioned above are less commonly used.
For the best possible coverage, we would therefore recommend using a device that supports the primary frequencies we first mentioned (the 3G Band 1 – 2100MHz / 4G Band 1 – 2100MHz frequencies) in addition to as many of the other frequencies shown above as possible.
Handset Compatibility
Please be advised that due to the wide range of handsets that are available on the market (and the different versions of each handset type that are often offered by different suppliers), we do not offer a compatibility checking service.
If you are not sure if your device has been fully unlocked (to accept SIM cards from alternative service providers) or you wish to ensure that your device supports the required frequencies for network coverage, we would recommend that you query this with the original retailer / service provider you purchased the device from.
